While numerous areas may claim to have "discovered" mountain biking, its hard to dispute that mountain biking reached critical mass in the Bay Area, where the likes of Gary Fischer, Joe Breeze, and Tom Richie took the step from retrofitting cruising bikes to mass producing specially designed mountain bikes. With its awesome year-round weather, beautiful scenery and abundance of trails its no wonder that the Bay Area holds this place in mountain biking history. While access issues has diminished the number of mountain bike trails, there's still an awesome array of riding available for bikers of all levels. New and Intermediate rders can head to China Camp in Marin, Wilder Ranch in Santa Cruz or Tilden Open Space near Berkeley. More advanced riders can hit Skeggs near Woodside, Soquel Demonstration Forest or Henry Coe State Park. |
